Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he plans to launch a premium footwear line. Entitled CR7, the brand will offer a selection of luxury shoes aimed at a customer with “a relaxed and casual lifestyle”, according to the website. This news comes not long after the footballer launched the CR7 underwear line in 2013, produced in collaboration with New York based designer Richard Chai.
In a push to support the industry of his home country, the CR7 shoes are to be made in Portugal, which is known for producing quality leather-goods. The shoes will have the footballer’s name embossed in the leather and feature a CR7 logo. They will be available in February next year, but prices haven’t yet been disclosed.

Ronaldo is not the first celebrity to turn to fashion by setting up a clothing line. Rapper Kanye West produced a womenswear line in 2011, and has since lent his name for a collaboration with Paris-based label A.P.C. Former actresses, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen set up luxury label The Row in 2006, which has gone on to be known for its understated signature style and is now stocked in 37 countries worldwide. Time will therefore show how well CR7 footwear is received by the public.
