The New York Fashion week schedule is set to lose one of its designers, as Australian label Sass & Bide has announced that it will be showing its upcoming Autumn/Winter 2015 collection in London.
Founded by Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke in 1999, Sass & Bide started as a denim label sold on Portobello Road before going on to gain international presence. Known for its bohemian vibe, the label’s following quickly grew after it appeared on the popular TV series Sex & the City. Middleton and Clarke left the company in July this year, in order to pursue other creative projects, after having sold the entirety of the company over to Australian department store Myer.
The move marks a return to the capital for the brand, since Sass & Bide first showed at London Fashion Week in 2002. September 2013 saw them relocate to New York Fashion Week to show their SS14 collection. The Autumn/Winter 2015 collection will be presented in London under the leadership of new design director Anthony Cuthbertson who has previously worked for the likes of Victoria Beckham and MaxMara.
The decision is part of Myer’s strategy to develop Sass & Bide since it gained full ownership in September 2013. However, the announcement of this relocation also comes amidst speculation that Mercedes-Benz might be putting an end to its official sponsorship of New York Fashion Week. Change is in the air…
