It’s one of the key labels of the Paris Couture schedule, and it’s setting its sights further afield. In addition to the Couture show in Paris, it’s been announced that fashion label Valentino will also be presenting collections in two other cities.
Couture Week takes place in Paris every January and July. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, who took over from founder Valentino Garavani in 2008, have decided to do things a little differently for the upcoming seasons.
They will be presenting an extra couture collection – different to the one shown in Paris - in New York this December. This will be a celebration of the new flagship store, where the show will be taking place. The store, which opened in August on New York’s Fifth Avenue, was designed by architect David Chipperfield.
The January show, taking place in Paris as usual, will then be followed by another one in Rome, to mark the opening of a further flagship store there.
In addition to the bi-annual couture collections, Valentino also presents ready-to-wear (including resort and pre-fall) and menswear.
Couture is anchored deep in tradition, and this decision to show Valentino’s couture collections in New York and Rome is nothing short of revolutionary. It remains to see whether any other Couture designers will follow suit.
