The annual CFDA Awards took place in New York last night. A key event on the fashion calendar, the ceremony honours the best talent in US luxury fashion.
Hosted by British comedian James Corden, the Awards ceremony saw prizes go to a select few designers.
The spotlight was firmly on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who bagged the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award for their fashion label The Row. They were up against rude competition, beating Joseph Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Proenza Schouler to the post. This is certainly not their first CFDA Award as the duo had previously won the same award in 2012 and, more recently, the Accessory Designer of the Year in 2014, which this time went to footwear designer Tabitha Simmons.
Meanwhile, Tom Ford – last year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award – yesterday took home the Menswear Designer of the Year Award.

The event was also held in collaboration with Swarovski, which has an agenda of supporting emerging designers, with Swarovski Awards going to Rosie Assoulin for Womenswear, Hood by Air for Menswear and Mansur Gavriel for Accessories Design.
Looking beyond the borders of America, the International Award was granted to Maria Grazia Chuiri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for the work they have accomplished at luxury fashion house Valentino.

As usual it was a star-studded event attended by a stylish crowd ranging from the likes of Anna Wintour and Chiara Ferragni to Diane Kruger. Kim Kardashian made the headlines for appearing in a sheer dress, shortly after announcing the news of her second pregnancy. The selfie-specialist presented the Media Award to Kevin Systrom, founder of Instagram, who dubbed her “Queen” of the social media platform in his acceptance speech. Music artist Pharell was also in attendance to receive the Fashion Icon Award.
